How to Pack for an Artistic Retreat

Heading off on a creative retreat? There’s something so exciting about stepping into a space designed just for making art. Here’s how to pack with both intention and ease.

1. Your Favorite Art Supplies

Bring only the essentials you use most—like your go-to sketchbook, watercolor set, and a few well-loved brushes.  Practice putting your kit together in varying ways in the weeks prior to your trip to see what works best for you on the go.

2. Location Specific Clothing

Art retreats often involve both studio time and nature time. Pack comfy clothes, layers, and maybe a favorite wrap.

3. The Right Books for Your Retreat

You’ll want to capture ideas, quotes, and reflections so a small notebook for these might come in handy. For your “main” book, choose a journal or sketchbook with good paper for your favorite techniques.  I like paper that can at least take a light wash of watercolor.

4. Small Comforts

Think tea bags, essential oils, or a tiny candle. Little comforts go a long way in unfamiliar spaces.

5. Openness and Curiosity

More than anything, bring a willingness to be surprised. Retreats are sacred spaces for transformation.
